Evangelism

Sue has been a member of St. Matthew for her entire life.

The position of chairman of Evangelism, sort of fell into my lap in April of 2002.  I volunteered to write thank you notes for our previous chairman.  After 2 months, the chairman had some health issues and asked to be released from the position.  The Pastor's then asked me to be the new chairman of Evangelism since I was on the committee.  I was not sure this was something I knew how to do or even wanted to, but as the year went on, I truly believed being put in this position was all in God's plan for me and St. Matthew.

I have learned so much this year about myself as well as what God expects of all of us as Christians.  I believe God gives us directions and signs everyday.  He puts it right there in front of our faces.  It is up to us to see or to ignore these signs.  Last year I chose to see the signs and my life has not been the same since.  It has made me realize how blessed I am!  It made me realize how hard other people of the congregation work to hold the church together and it made me want to help keep it that way for the future generations.  I beleive the best way to lead is by example!

My favorite thing at St. Matthew is the people that make up this congregation.  St. Matthew, as well as many other churches, has been through much upheaval and changes in the past 40 years that I have been here, yet when it comes down to the wire the people always seem to get through it.  Sometimes a little worse for wear, but we come together because of the common love we share for this church, it's people, and ultimatly for God's kingdom.

You will never find a congregation that puts it's heart and soul into a project or an event like the people of St. Matthew's do.  We have numerous and exceptional volunteers who do their jobs because they love to, not because they have to.  Even when times get tough, the attitude of the people get tougher.  They work hard to defend, protect, and keep the high standards that are excpected of the church and school.  In the end they always try to do what God expects of all of us and love one another.

The most important thing about being Lutheran is that we beleive what the bible tells us is true and we let scripture interpret scripture.  Not man interpeting scripture to fit his needs.
