What to Expect

The Holy Spirit moved the leaders of St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School to establish a congregation in what was once Russell's Grove in October of 1863.  Since that time, God has blessed the community of now, Hawthorn Woods, with a campus for worshiping the Lord and educating her children with a Christian Day School,  Sunday School and Vacation Bible School progams.

You have a variety of days and times to worhip with us at St. Matthew.  Saturday evening services are held in the main sanctuary at 5:30 p.m.  Many of our parishioners dress casually for this service.  If you choose to worship on Sunday morning, two different services are available as well as an educational hour.  The 8:00 a.m. service is a traditional service.  This service is blessed by God's word, the choirs participate, and people attend in their "Sunday Best".  Following the 8:00 a.m. service, there is fellowship in Luther Hall.  This is where you can find the famous donut holes, coffee and juice.  Educational Hour begins at 9:15 a.m.  During this time, there is Sunday School (preschool - 4th grade), preconfirmation for grades 5 and 6, youth bible study, and adult bible study.  We are all in God's Word at this time.  The 10:30 a.m. service is "traditional" in nature on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday's of the month and a "Contemporary Blended Service" is provided on the 2nd and 4th Sunday's of the month.  God accepts you into his home no matter what your dress may be.

When you arrive at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, there are four parking lots, one on each side of the building.  Handicapped parking is available and designated by blue signs or pavement markings.  You may enter the building through doors, 1,2,4, 7 and 13.  Once arriving there is a congregational member to greet you and answer any questions that you may have like--Where is the bathroom?"  Also greeting you will be a member of our Deacon team as well as our pastoral staff.
