The Mission and Vision of St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School is:
Sharing in the Mission of Christ: Learning, Connecting & Serving.
This Mission / Vision Statement is based on concepts which make use of the first letters of each of the words in the name of the congregation. Saint Matthew Lutheran Church & School—SMLCS —Sharing in the Mission of Christ Learning, Connecting & Serving.
The Mission of Christ in which we are Sharing, is clearly enunciated by our Lord in the last chapter of the Gospel according to St. Matthew where Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20.
The three primary activities in which the congregation is involved are:
Learning Jesus says, “Learn from Me.”  In context the verse reads “Take my yoke upon you, and Learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29
Connecting the concept of connecting is based on 1Corinthians 1:9 where St. Paul reminds us “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Serving Jesus says in Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to Serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
By the power of the Holy Spirit – working through God’s Holy Word and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, the members of St. Matthew will be equipped and encouraged to be ever Learning, ever Connecting and ever Serving together as we are continually Sharing in the Mission of Christ.
